More tools to get your body out of stress mode Many of you know my story of adrenal fatigue and addiction to benzodiazepines. I have also shared how Kundalini Yoga changed my life and allowed me to restore my body to hormonal health. One important thing I neglected to talk about was diet. I tried many diets and went to several doctors. Only one doctor had me work with a nutritionist. The nutritionist that I believe helped me the most was Christa Orecchio. Christa has a program called the Whole Journey. This program addressed the foods that can harm our bodies. Sugar is really the culprit for me. If we drink alcohol and also eat sugar it’s a double whammy to the adrenals. Add a little caffeine and it’s a triple threat. Our society has learned to live off stress hormones, and we are suffering the consequences: feeling wired and tired; inability to sleep; thyroid imbalances; pms; weight gain; hair loss and the list goes on and on. Christa’s program not only helped me restore hormonal balance, but also got me off sugar and helped me eliminate infections. I cannot recommend this program enough. I know it is the holidays and people don’t want to think about diet, however, the holidays also add the component of more stress. That is why when the holidays are over, everyone starts their New Year’s Resolutions to eat better and exercise more. Do yourself a favor and make self-care a priority. Yogi Bhajan reminds us, “When you don’t go within, you go without.” Find some time to care for yourself and go to a Kundalini Class or Meditation. We have free 30 min meditations daily. Kundalini Yoga and meditation can restore your glandular system taking you out of the sympathetic nervous system response (fight or flight) and bringing you back to your natural relaxed parasympathetic nervous system state. Yogi Bhajan also told us, “There is a very powerful system in this body, it is very rational system. With all the stress and the strain our flip flops, our curses and our blessings, our crucifixions and our joys and our parties and our feast and our fasting, which is a normal routine of life. Our system has what you call is a reserve force. That reserve force is called meditating power. It is a competition between the three. Hypothalamus, pituitary and pineal. And medical science has totally not understood it, neither it has reached it”. “Perhaps in another century or two they will try to understand the body mechanism is between this trinity – Father, the son, the holy ghost. Pineal is called the father, pituitary called the son and hypothalamus is called the holy ghost. Because it has a lot of varieties of things in it. It is called trinity of the life psyche”.
