Stressors

Updated: Aug 12

It’s that time of year again. The holidays bring a special joy as well as anxiety to many. It is the time when our buttons get pushed by other people, family members and events. For some of us we feel a loss for loved ones who have passed are about to pass. We could feel lonely or depressed during the holidays. For others, it may be the stress of shopping, travelling or juggling time between families, friends and work. If you find yourself in one of these situations, plan for some time for yourself to come back to your center. Whatever the reasons for the tension, here are a few ways to neutralize the heightened energy and balance the emotions.

1. When you feel like an argument is about to start, stop and drink a large glass of very cold water. Try to get the other person to join you. It sounds crazy, but the water balance is affected and your body and brain physically have to adjust to deal with the cold water.

2. Deep breathing with Mudras. When we become stressed our body tension increases, our heart-rate speeds up and our breathing become shallow. Remember to breath. When you take a long, deep breath it affects the energy in the room. Your command of the space reminds others around you to breath in the same fashion.

3. Doing the meditation for Emotional Balance – 11 minutes of this mediation has a calming affect better than taking a valium!

4. When you are back home or finally alone do Kirtan Kriya. It only takes twelve minutes and can be done in a chair, on a bench or sitting on the floor. The benefits of Kirtan Kriya are numerous and it does so much more than reverse memory loss. Some of the other positive effects are reducing negative thoughts and calming the mind. UCLA and other universities have done studies on the benefits of Kirtan Kriya. Medical News Today cites that improvements in memory, mood, and stress resilience seen with yoga and meditation may be down to the increased production of a protein called brain-derived neurotrophic growth factor. The Journal of Alternative and Complimentary Medicine cites that Kirtan Kriya positively affects our mood, released anxiety, tension and fatigue.

5. Remember the Sutra’s for the Aquarian Age:

Five Sutras of the Aquarian Age

  1. Recognize that the other person is you

  2. There is a way through every block

  3. The the time is on you, start and the pressure will be off

  4. Understand through compassion or you will misunderstand the times

  5. Vibrate the Cosmos and the Cosmos shall clear the path

  6. And finally Yogi Bhajan reminds us, “If you can’t see God in all, you can’t see God at all
